The County of Fluvanna is recruiting for the position of full-time Code Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer. Will perform intermediate technical work enforcing the zoning ordinance and various environmental codes; does related work as required.

Work is performed under regular supervision.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • • Enforcing zoning ordinances and various environmental codes and inspecting properties,  maintaining records and preparing reports.
  • • Enforces zoning ordinances and environmental codes.
  • • Researches records for ownership data and sends violation notices.
  • • Inspects properties for compliance with ordinances, codes, and submitted plats/blueprints.
  • • Responds to complaints; conducts inspections.
  • • Maintains records and files concerning inspections and re-inspections.
  • • Issues stop work orders on non-permitted properties.
  • • Responds to complaints received at the counter, over the telephone, through email, or by mail.
  • • Provides backup support to Building Inspections as an inspector, as needed.
  • • Serves as an E&S Site Inspector as needed.
  • • Performs related tasks as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of the zoning ordinances and various environmental codes;
  • General knowledge of legal procedures related to the enforcement of ordinances and codes;
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans and designs and to ensure compliance with appropriate ordinances and codes; ability to prepare factual reports and present same to appropriate board or commission;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Enforce ordinances and regulations with firmness, tact and impartiality;
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, public officials, associates and the general public

Acceptable Education, Experience, and Training-  Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in code enforcement.
  • Must have the ability to obtain the certifications as a Certified Zoning Official, E&S Inspector, and Building Inspector applicable to the position within 2 years

Working Conditions Special Requirements:

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires walking, stooping, climbing, standing, , and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, and use of measuring devices; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. 

The hiring range is $21.41 to $25.69 hourly rate -DOQ- Excellent benefits!
