Treasurer
Attention: The 2026 1st half Real Estate and Personal Property tax bills were mailed April 24. Taxes are due by June 5, 2026.
Any unpaid 2025 (or earlier years) Real Estate and/or Personal Property taxes have been sent to the collections firm, Taxing Authority Consulting Services, P.C. (TACS). Please be in touch with TACS regarding any delinquent taxes or letter you may have received.
Please Note: Lifetime Dog Tags are now available for purchase.
Tax Relief for the Elderly and Disabled - Requirements: Must be 65 years old or older, or permanently and totally disabled. Property must be in the name of the person applying, and must be their only home. The annual household income must be under $50,000. Household net worth cannot exceed $160,000, excluding dwelling and 5 acres. Applications for tax relief are accepted in the Commissioner of the Revenue's office from January 1 to March 31. (See "Commissioner of the Revenue" page for more information and the application form.)
Real Estate Taxes & Personal Property Taxes -
First half real estate and personal property taxes are due by June 5, and 2nd half real estate and personal property taxes are due by December 5. If taxes are not paid by those dates, a penalty will be assessed the next day and interest will be added each month thereafter. If you have any questions, feel free to call the office. If your call is not answered right away, please leave a detailed message and someone will return your call.
Payment Options:
If you are going to mail your payment, mail it early. If not, make sure you have it postmarked at the post office. Any payment received after either June 5 or December 5, without a postmark of June 5 or December 5, will be assessed a penalty. Each month after that, interest will be added.
The Treasurer's Office can now take credit card payments in the office. Online credit card payments can be made by calling 1-800-272-9829 or accessing the web at www.officialpayments.com. When prompted, enter the last five digits of the ticket number and use Jurisdiction Code 6241.
There is a Treasurer's Office drop box located at the bottom of the steps in the parking lot on Palmyra Way road.
Delinquent taxes:
Currently: Any unpaid real estate or personal property taxes, other than tax year 2026, are now with our collections firm, Taxing Authority Consulting Services, P.C. (TACS). You can reach TACS at www.taxva.com or 866-951-0742. The Treasurer's Office is currently only taking payments for 2026.
Collections: On March 5, of each year, the prior year's delinquent taxes will be sent to TACS. Therefore, be sure to settle your account(s) before that time in order to avoid the additional collection fees.
DMV Hold: In January, of each year, any prior year delinquent Personal Property taxes will have a DMV hold placed on them, and will not be removed until the entire tax bill is paid. This hold prevents you from being able to conduct any business with the DMV.
