#4090- SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR

The County of Fluvanna, Parks & Recreation Department is seeking to fill openings for summer Parks & Recreation camp counselors.

The Camp Counselor position is responsible for implementing the summer camp program by actively engaging with participants daily. This position provides oversight of camp programs under the mission, vision, and policies of the Fluvanna County Parks and Recreation Department while ensuring the safety of program participants throughout each day; providing transportation to various activities including amusement parks, disc golf, hiking, kayaking, trips, and other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Checks in/out camp participants upon arrival/dismissal.
• Engages with camp participants and leads activities daily.
• Transports camp participants to various activity locations.
• Coordinates with the Programs and Special Events Coordinator on outcomes of outings.
• Prepares incident reports as necessary.
• Provides feedback to the Programs and Special Events Coordinator with an update on daily activities.
• Communicate with parents about positive and negative outcomes and opportunities.
• Carries out other duties as assigned.
• Schedules will vary between 8 - 10 hours/day and the applicant must be able to work outdoors for up to 10 hours at a time.
• The schedule will vary between 30-40 hours/per week.
• This position requires the ability to sit and/or stand for long periods, drive a van, use a telephone, and related business equipment as necessary for this position. 
• Requires the ability to travel to and between center/off-site locations.
• May be required to occasionally lift 25 lbs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidates must be at least 18 years of age by employment start date.
• Possess a clean driving record, valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Must be able to work outdoors for up to ten hours a day.
• CPR and First Aid certification is preferred, but not required.
• Prior camp counseling experience is preferred.

Camps operate from May through August. Salary starting at $13.65 per hour.
