Position Summary:

Fluvanna County is recruiting for an Information Technology Systems Engineer to provide advanced implementation, administration, and support for County systems, applications, Microsoft 365 services, network infrastructure, and other services within the County IT Service Portfolio. This role supports County IT projects, performs systems/server administration and maintenance, and serves as a secondary escalation point for end-user help desk needs.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities):

  • Serve as the secondary point of contact for IT help desk requests and resolve escalated issues to completion.
  • Install, configure, and maintain operating system workstations and servers (including web servers) to support business requirements.
  • Perform software installations and upgrades for operating systems and layered applications; schedule and maintain updates aligned with IT policies and procedures.
  • Monitor, tune, and support systems to maintain performance and reliability.
  • Conduct routine hardware and software audits of servers to ensure compliance with standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive hardware/software configuration library and supporting documentation.
  • Provide team support and maintenance for LAN hardware/software.
  • Provide implementation and support for server hardware and related infrastructure.
  • Configure, implement, administer, and support Microsoft 365 services (user and license administration, email, collaboration, and related security/configuration settings).
  • Support Windows desktop and server operating systems and key services such as Active Directory, Group Policy, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, SAN/NAS, and other advanced systems.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for applications, desktops, VoIP phone systems, Tyler systems, and escalated Microsoft 365 issues.
  • Perform network infrastructure configuration, installation, maintenance, and monitoring.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of information technology principles and practices across multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to resolve help desk incidents under limited supervision with high accuracy and customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality customer service.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, employees, and contractors.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration (user/license management, email, and collaboration services) and strong knowledge of Windows desktop/server operating systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of relevant experience in information technology or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in an IT role.
  • Advanced Microsoft 365 administration experience (email, collaboration, licensing, and identity management).
  • Active Microsoft 365 and/or other relevant Microsoft certification(s).
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in information technology (or equivalent combination of education/experience).

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work requiring exertion of up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs constantly to move objects.
  • Physical demands may include climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motion.
  • Work occurs in both inside and outside environmental conditions.

Hiring Range: $65,062 – $81,328 (commensurate with experience)
