IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT NOVEMBER SNAP BENEFITS

On November 9, 2025, Governor Glenn Youngkin issued a press release announcing that, following federal notification that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits would be paid this week, Virginia will pause the issuance of Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) benefits to ensure full compliance with federal requirements. The federal Food and Nutrition Service directed that 65 percent of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) monthly benefits for more than 850,000 Virginians will be issued this week. 

This action follows the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) directive to all states to initiate a partial issuance of SNAP benefits, in accordance with the Trump Administration’s USDA guidance. Based on this federal guidance, it is anticipated that benefits will be processed no later than Thursday, November 13.  You can read the full press release here.

On October 23, 2025, Governor Glenn Youngkin issued a press release declaring a State of Emergency to provide emergency hunger relief for Virginians in response to the Federal Government Shutdown causing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to run out starting November 1, 2025.  The press release states that the Commonwealth will provide food benefits.  You can read the press release here.

RICHMOND, VA — Governor Glenn Youngkin outlined the parameters of the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) initiative, a Commonwealth-supported food assistance effort established by Executive Order 54 under the State of Emergency declared by the Governor due to the Democrat Shutdown in Washington, D.C. In addition, the Governor announced an additional $1 million of state funds would be provided to Virginia food banks in order to offset any temporary disruption as VENA launches at the beginning of November.  Continue reading the full press release here.
