FLUVANNA COUNTY STATEMENT ON ALLEGATION REGARDING JAMES RIVER WATER AUTHORITY ARCHEOLOGICAL CONSULTANT

PALMYRA, VIRGINIA – The James River Water Authority (JRWA) was recently made aware of allegations about a subcontracting archaeological consultant who has worked on the James River water supply project. Those allegations were made by a former employee of the consultant and relate to archeological studies that were conducted by the consultant for JRWA in 2017 and 2018.

The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors and the JRWA, a separate legal entity from the County, take these allegations very seriously. A thorough review will be conducted in order to determine whether or not these allegations will be contested. If the allegations are founded, the Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors will pursue necessary and appropriate action to ensure the protection of taxpayer dollars. Additionally, the JRWA has retained a second archeological firm to advise the project.

“This matter was recently brought to the attention of the Board,” notes Fluvanna Board Chair, John M. Sheridan. “The Board will uphold its responsibility to the residents of Fluvanna County, ensuring the project moves forward properly and appropriately.”

This critical project will provide a reliable public water supply for the residents of Fluvanna County for decades to come. Fluvanna County remains fully committed to seeing the project completed in a timely and responsible manner.
