Veterans Tax Relief

Virginia Constitution and Code provide localities shall exempt from taxation a 100% service-connected, permanently and totally disabled veteran's dwelling along with a minimum of one acre (Fluvanna exempts up to five acres) starting on or after January 1, 2011 and one motor vehicle (primarily used by OR for the qualified veteran) starting on or after January 1, 2021.

Qualifications for tax relief for veterans:

Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly and Disabled

Requirements for tax relief for the elderly and disabled:

  • Must be 65 years old or older or permanently and totally disabled.
  • Property must be in the name of the person applying and must be their only home.
  • The annual household income must be under $50,000.
  • Financial worth of the applicant and all other persons living in the home must be under $160,000 excluding the value of the dwelling and five acres of land.
  • Tax relief is based on the prior year’s income and financial worth at prior year’s end.
  • Applications are taken January 1st through March 31st of each year.

Land Use

The land use ordinance for Fluvanna County was adopted effective January 1, 1978 declaring the preservation of real estate devoted to agricultural, horticultural, forest and open space uses within the County be taxed by the use assessment in accordance with the provisions outlined in article 4 of chapter 32 of title 58.1 of the Code of Virginia.

Business Personal Property

At this time Fluvanna County does not require a business license to operate in the County, but the business is required to register with the Commissioner of the Revenue's Office in order to assess tangible business personal property tax annually. The state of Virginia requires businesses to be registered with the Virginia Department of Taxation.

Secure Remote Access

Pursuant to Virginia law, the Circuit Court Clerk makes land records available via a Secure Remote Access (SRA) site. Access to the SRA site is granted to subscribers with a valid user name and password. Access is provided by subscription only and the subscription fee must be paid in advance.
