Concealed Handgun Permits

​**Beginning January 1, 2021 online courses will no longer be accepted as proof of competency with a handgun, you must take an IN PERSON course**

  • Persons wishing to obtain a concealed handgun permit are required to apply in the City or County of their residence (i.e., only Fluvanna residents may apply through the Fluvanna Circuit Court).
  • Applications are available and may be filed in the Clerk's Office from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Divisions

DIVISIONS

The Sheriff's Office has three primary parts, identified as Divisions. The divisions are comprised of sections and units. Each division has a Chief assigned the rank of Captain or Director.

Major David R. Wells - Chief Deputy

Major Wells has been serving Fluvanna since 2006, but his law enforcement career goes back much farther.  He started law enforcement in 1995 when he first served as an Auxiliary Police Officer for the City of Colonial Heights Police Department.  In 1997 he became a Police Officer for the Division of Capitol Police in Richmond.  From there he became a Police Officer for the City of Waynesboro Police Department where he started as a patrol officer before moving up to become a detective.  He also served on the department's SWAT Team.
