Board of Supervisors Statement on White Pride Flyer

The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors has recently learned that County residents have discovered white pride literature on their property and has issued the following statement:

“The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors reiterates the January 11, 2021 statement from the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, condemning white supremacy and hate-based propaganda.  The Board stands with the Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office to denounce, clearly and decisively, the bigotry contained in these messages and to let those who attempt to sow seeds of hate and intimidation know that we stand united against the vile rhetoric that they promote.

In Fluvanna, we strive to be better than this. The Board adamantly rejects words, actions, and policies that foster division and bring out bigotry, hatred, and discrimination, and condemns racism and oppression of people of color in our county.

While we adamantly oppose the language and intent of these flyers, the flyers in and of themselves are Constitutionally protected speech and not unlawful. The Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office asks that if you find similar flyers, to please call the Sheriff’s Office so that they might track and document the finding. The Sheriff’s Office also asks that you do not post a picture of the actual flyer on social media as it circulates the message and the organization.”
