Animal Control

Fluvanna Animal Control is a unit of the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office. The division consists of two Animal Control Officers (ACOs).

Mission Statement

The mission of the Animal Control Division is to support responsible pet ownership, humane treatment of animals, compliance with statutes and ordinances for the control and protection of animals.

Animal Control Officer duties include:

  • Enforcement of county codes and state laws that pertain to domestic pets and livestock
  • Investigation of animal cruelty and neglect complaints
  • Investigation of dog attacks and bites to humans, animals, and livestock
  • Response to emergencies involving sick or seriously injured domestic animals, including potential human exposure to rabies
  • Removal of stray dogs from the streets and other public areas
