Full time AND Part time (20 HR/WK) DEPUTY SHERIFFS:

Unlike larger agencies, officers and deputies in Fluvanna County get a chance to investigate some of their own cases and follow them from the initial report to the courtroom. The County offers opportunities for training and certifications; Patrol, Court Services, Civil Process, Criminal Investigations, bicycle and motorcycle patrol. Deputies also get opportunities for increased community involvement and have time to develop community relationships.

Courts

The courts, also known as the Judicial Affairs Section, are responsible for courthouse security and transportation of prisoners.  Each Deputy assigned to the courthouse does their best at:

VINELink (Victim Information and Notification Everyday)

VINELink is the online version of VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday), the National Victim Notification Network. This service allows crime victims to obtain timely and reliable information about criminal cases and the custody status of offenders 24 hours a day. Some states have the ability to display this website in Spanish. Please click on the state where you wish to search. If this option is available, you will see an "English | Español" toggle in the upper right hand corner.

File of Life

The File of Life is a voluntary program which allows local first responders to quickly obtain the medical history and contact information in an emergency when a patient cannot provide one.  The File of Life can be kept in your wallet or attached to a magnet on your refrigerator to ensure access.  The File of Life program helps members of the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office partner with members of the Fluvanna EMS and Fire Department to provide services at times when you or a family member may not be able to communicate effectively due to medical reasons or personal injury. 

 

Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is one of the most popular and successful of all efforts to prevent residential crime.  The National Sheriffs’ Association created the National Neighborhood Watch Program in 1972, and have since partnered with USA Freedom Corps, Citizen Corps and the U.S. Department of Justice to revitalize the initiative.  Fluvanna County is one of thousands of Virginia localities participating in this crime prevention program. www.volunteerguide.org/

Communications

The Communications Division is under the authority of a civilian, who carries the rank and authority of a Captain within the Agency.  The division is composed of the Director of Communications and Technology, an Operations Coordinator, a Communications Supervisor, Communications Team Leaders, and Communications Officers.

Civil Process and Enforcement

The Civil Unit works on processing and execution of various types of civil papers generated by the different courts within or outside of Virginia, the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Attorney General’s Office, Administrative Agencies, and other Attorneys.  This unit serves and enforces papers, such as:

  • Summons
  • Subpoenas for witnesses
  • Warrants for appearing in small claims court
  • Papers for eviction procedures, summons for unlawful detainer, and writ of possession

The unit serves approximately 7,000-9,000 papers per year.

Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES)

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES) program is sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the Association for Amateur Radio. ARES is a corps of trained volunteers composed of amateur radio operators who are organized to assist in public service and emergency communications. The ARES program is a component of the ARRL Field Organization, which divides the United States into 71 administrative sections, each of which is an organizational unit managed by a Section Manager (SM) who appoints other Section officials, such as the Section Emergency Coordinator (SEC).
