UPDATE: Haven Moses missing person investigation

On Friday, 02/05/2016, in the evening, Haven Moses was removed from a caretaker’s home in the Scottsville area of Fluvanna County by James A. Moses III, Haven’s biological father, without the permission of the child’s biological mother, Nichole Melia, and in violation of a protective order.

The incident was reported to the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office on 02/06/2016 in the late evening hours. The investigation began and there was concern for the child’s safety.

The Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office obtained assistance from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation as well as other law enforcement agencies. Investigators were able to speak with members of James Moses’s family and were ultimately able to arrange for a family member to take Haven to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.

On the evening of 02/07/2016, Haven was taken to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, apparently unharmed, by a family member and subsequently returned to her mother. The Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office has obtained warrants for James A. Moses III for violation of a protective order and parental abduction. James A Moses III is currently wanted on those charges at this time.
