Concealed Handgun Permits

• Persons wishing to obtain a concealed handgun permit are required to apply in the City or County of their residence (i.e., only Fluvanna residents may apply through the Fluvanna Circuit Court).
• Applicants may apply or renew online any time or in-person in the Clerk's Office from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
• First-time applicants are required to provide proof of competency with a handgun (please see Section 18.2-308.02 of the Code of Virginia).  As of January 1, 2021 online courses are no longer accepted as proof of competency with a handgun, you must take an IN PERSON course. Individuals who hold a permit from another state and who wish to obtain a permit from this Court must provide proof of competency with a handgun as well. 
• The filing fee collected by the Clerk's Office is $50.  
• Processing of these applications can take up to 45 days.
• The Clerk’s Office will mail the permit (or notice of denial) to the applicant.  Please allow 45 days from the time the completed application is filed with the Clerk’s Office.
